Hiawatha light rail back in service
The Hiawatha light rail is back in service, a Metro Transit spokesman said.
Full service was restored around 3:20 p.m. today, in time for the evening rush hour and tonight's Twins game at Target Field. Replacement bus service is being withdrawn.
Hiawatha light rail service stopped just before 8 a.m. Friday when a power line went down across the rail bridge over Highway 62 close to the Fort Snelling station. Services was interrupted between the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport and Franklin Avenue.
Metro Transit does not know why the power line came down. About 120 passengers got off the train and walked about a half-mile to waiting buses. Passengers were taken from the Lindbergh terminal light rail station at the airport to the Franklin Avenue station in Minneapolis and intermediate stops.
Trains continued to run from the airport to the Mall of America and from the Franklin Avenue station to downtown Minneapolis.
