St. Paul City Council plans to pass resolution against an Arden Hills Vikings stadium

St. Paul, Minn. — The St. Paul City Council is planning to pass a resolution against a proposed Vikings stadium planned for Arden Hills.

The billion dollar project would be paid for in part by a sales tax increase in Ramsey County. Officials say it could be as much as a half percent.

St. Paul City Council president Kathy Lantry said she expects her colleagues will easily pass a non-binding resolution opposing the idea at a meeting on Wednesday.

"If its going to be a statewide asset then it needs a statewide funding source, or at least a broader tax than just Ramsey County," Lantry said.

A deal struck between the Vikings and Ramsey County in May languished in the final weeks of the legislative session. State officials said they haven't signed on to the plan because road work around the stadium would cost too much.
