Metrodome roof replacement about 80 percent done

Minneapolis — About 80 percent of the new roof being installed on the Metrodome in Minneapolis is in place. The facility should be ready to reopen in time for the Vikings preseason football game in late August.

The new roof was needed after parts of the old Teflon-coated fabric were shredded by snow and wind in December.

MPR's Jim Bickal went inside the stadium earlier this week and got an update on the project from Steve Maki, the director of facilities and engineering for the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission. One thing visitors will notice is that the new roof will look different than the old one.
