Boston Scientific records first-quarter profit

St. Paul, Minn. — Boston Scientific, which has some 5,000 employees in Minnesota, posted a profit for the first three months of this year.

The medical products maker had net income of $20 million. In the same period a year ago, the company lost about $2 million. Sales totalled $1.9 billion, about the same as a year ago.

The company is expected to discuss its results in a call with investors Thursday.
