Number of measles cases in Minn. up to 13by Lorna Benson, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Paul, Minn. — Another measles case has been confirmed in Minnesota, bringing the outbreak total to 13 so far.
So far no deaths have been associated with the outbreak, but eight people have been hospitalized. Cases have ranged in age from four months to 34 years old. Five individuals were too young to receive vaccine, six were of age but were not vaccinated, and two have unknown vaccine status.
Minnesota Department of Health officials believe the outbreak started when a Somali child returned from a trip to Africa and developed measles soon afterward.
The Health Department is urging all Hennepin County residents and Somalis living in the greater metropolitan area to get the vaccinated, if they haven't already done so.
