Dayton wants to meet with Hutchinson Tech over layoffsby Tim Pugmire, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Paul, Minn. — Gov. Mark Dayton says he wants to meet with Hutchinson Technology officials to discuss the company's plans to cut hundreds of jobs in the coming months.
Dayton said he spoke briefly Wednesday with Hutchinson Mayor Steve Cook before an unrelated meeting with about two dozen city leaders from throughout the state.
Hutchinson Technology, which makes disc drive components, announced Tuesday its plans to downsize. Dayton told reporters he wants to know more about the company's decision.
"I want to talk with the chief executive and find out if there's anything we can do from Minnesota's standpoint to address those problems or concerns," Dayton said.
Dayton said he also plans to meet separately with city leaders in Hutchinson to offer support and assistance. The company said about 600 of its 1,125 Hutchinson employees will be affected by the cuts.
