U of M students to rally at Capitol for higher ed. funding

More than 300 University of Minnesota students from throughout the state are scheduled to rally in the Capitol to drum up support for higher education funding.

The rally is scheduled for noon Tuesday in the state Capitol Rotunda. Gov. Mark Dayton, U.S Rep. Keith Ellison, state Sen. David Senjem and university President Robert Bruininks are also scheduled to attend.

The Minnesota Student Association is hosting the event. MSA President Sarah Shook says the group wants to make sure the Legislature considers the university and its students as it seeks to fill a $6 billion deficit.

Separately, Bruininks is scheduled to testify before the House Higher Education Policy and Finance Committee on Tuesday about the impact of proposed budgets cuts on the university and its students.
