Fireworks will replace Taste of Minnesota
by Jessica Mador, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — Saint Paul city officials are planning a fireworks display next July 4th on Harriet Island.
The fireworks will replace the Taste of Minnesota, which shut down earlier this year because of financial problems.
City Parks and Recreation spokesman Brad Meyer said the city recently rejected four proposals to replace Taste of Minnesota.
"After careful consideration of all four proposals we decided that none presented an event that would be in the best interest of Harriet Island for the 2011 season so we decided to move forward with a different plan," he said.
Meyer says details on the fireworks show have not been finalized. He says the city is open to looking at other events in the future.
