MnSCU plans to cut $4.2M from its next budget

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System chancellor's office plans to cut $4.2 million from its budget next fiscal year.

The $4.2 million is about 10 percent of the office's budget, which was roughly $47 million dollars this year.

MnSCU spokesperson Melinda Voss said the cuts will mean the elimination of 41 positions.

"The positions would be eliminated through resignations, retirements and some layoffs," Voss said.

Voss said the budget cuts come because of an expected reduction in the state's higher education funding in fiscal year 2012.

Earlier this year, a state audit criticized MnSCU's central office, saying it didn't operate efficiently and should consider reorganization.
