One dead after car drove into a north Minneapolis house

One man is dead and another man injured after a car apparently drove into a house in north Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

Police sergeant William Palmer says police were called to 1012 39th Avenue North at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

"When the officers arrived at the scene they found one male who had been struck by a vehicle. He was very seriously injured. My understanding he passed away on the way to the hospital," Palmer said.

Another man at the scene was found unconscious with a head injury and has also been taken to North Memorial, but Palmer says it's unclear how that man was injured.

Palmer said police have identified a suspect after they spotted a car driving on three wheels and a rim a few blocks away, and after a short chase apprehended the intoxicated driver.

Palmer says physical evidence ties the car to the house struck.

The porch of that home was heavily damaged. Palmer says there were several people there when the incident occurred.

He says police aren't ready to call the case a homicide, but the department's homicide unit is investigating.
