U of M Regents expected to finalize light rail agreement

St. Paul, Minn. — The University of Minnesota Board of Regents is expected to approve a measure that would drop a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Council, a major hurdle to the completion of a light rail line through campus.

The university and Met Council have agreed upon a plan that will monitor and mitigate problems the line might cause to sensitive lab equipment on campus.

The regents will also review plans for a nearly $60 million expansion of a recreation center on the Minneapolis campus. They'll also consider a plan to spend $777,000 on a new bike center on campus.

The regents will also hear results of a statewide survey gauging public perception of the university.

The board usually meets over two days, but members shortened September's meeting to accommodate the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah.
