Strong storms move across northern, central Minnesota

St. Paul, Minn. — Severe thunderstorms were popping up across the northern half of the state Thursday evening, spawning at least one tornado near Bemidji.

Storm spotters reported a tornado on the ground shortly before 6 p.m. about 13 miles northeast of Bemidji in rural Beltrami County.

Storms continued to develop to the southwest when at 8 p.m. damage from a possible tornado was reported 4 miles south of Brandon, Minn. in the western part of the state.

Pea-size hail and 45 mph winds were expected with this storm.
