Homicide count in Mpls at 28 after weekend shootings

St. Paul, Minn. — Two men died in shootings in Minneapolis over the weekend, bringing the number of homicides in the city to 28.

Both shootings happened early Sunday morning. The first took place in north Minneapolis, when one man was fatally shot and another injured.

Police said the injured man was taken to North Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His condition was not immediately available.

Police said they arrested an 18-year-old man on Sunday in connection with the shooting.

In a separate incident, a man was found shot dead in the street outside Grumpy's bar in northeast Minneapolis. The man was identified as 24-year-old Tirso Cruz Gomez. The medical examiner said he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Police were still trying to talk to witnesses as they investigated the case.
