Bobcat Goldthwaite not dead -- just writing and directing
by Euan Kerr, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — Bobcat Goldthwait is known as the zany screeching comedian who appeared in the "Police Academy" movies, and who set alight Jay Leno's couch on the Tonight Show.
Nowadays Goldthwait, who's performing at the Acme Comedy Company in Minneapolis this weekend, says many people think he's dead.
In fact he's been writing and directing TV shows and movies -- usually about despicable characters. His latest movie, "World's Greatest Dad" centers on a writer who launches a career by faking his dead son's journals.
While they have a huge squirm factor, the films have won critical praise, and been invited to Sundance. Goldthwait told Euan Kerr he writes the stories he finds interesting.
