Missing cub reunited with mother bear

St. Paul, Minn. — A world-famous northern Minnesota bear cub that has been missing since Friday has been rescued and reunited with its mother.

The bear cub Hope went missing after she and her mother Lily climbed a pine tree to rest. The mother bear then left the tree and wandered more than two miles away. By the time she returned to the tree Sunday, Hope was gone.

Community members and officials have been searching for the little bear ever since. The bear has also been followed on Facebook.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that after the cub was found, researchers tracked down its mother, who has a GPS collar. But, they weren't certain she would take the cub back. But, as soon as the two were reunited, Hope began to nurse.

Video of Hope's birth in January was available on the Internet from a "den cam" that captured her mother's pregnancy.
