Eskola to leave WCCO-AM after 30 years

A Minnesota Capitol reporter who is almost as much a part of the state political scene as the officials he covers has taken a buyout that will remove him from daily radio.

WCCO-AM's Eric Eskola said Tuesday he is leaving the Minneapolis-based station after 30 years.

Eskola has been covering the Capitol since 1985. He said he reported on his first political convention in Duluth in 1976 for a local station.

He says he will continue co-hosting the weekly "Almanac" public affairs show on public television.

Eskola joins an exodus of veterans from the station this spring, including Dark Star, Tim Russell and Jeff McKinney.
