Authorities: Boy dies after walking into car's pathby Elizabeth Dunbar, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Paul, Minn. — The car that hit a 16-year-old boy in Fridley on Sunday had a green light, and the driver likely won't be charged, authorities said Monday.
The teen who was hit was crossing University Avenue with another person at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Instead of stopping at the median to let an oncoming car pass, the boy continued into the road and was hit, Anoka County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Summer said.
The boy was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale where he died a few hours later.
Summer said authorities are still investigating the incident, and the State Patrol is reconstructing the accident. It will be several weeks before the investigation is complete, but for now authorities believe no alcohol was involved and have determined the driver had a green light, Summer said.
"The driver was unable to stop," he said.
