Moorhead mayor urges residents to 'be vigilant'

Moorhead, Minn. — Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland said the hard work of local residents and some cooperation from Mother Nature could make this year's flood seem like a non-event.

Voxland said the city is well prepared for a weekend crest and will begin what could be a long period of monitoring along the newly built levees and dikes while the Red River stays high.

"Be vigilant these next few days," he said. "This next week and a half is very important as we are trying to make sure it stays a non-event."

The Red River is expected to crest at 38 feet late Sunday in Fargo-Moorhead.
