Brunswick to close Minn. boat factory

Brunswick Corp. says it plans to close its boat factory in central Minnesota.

Brunswick says it will move production of Crestliner and Triton boats and pontoons from Little Falls in Morrison County to plants in New York Mills in Otter Tail County; Lebanon, Mo.; and Fort Wayne, Ind.

Little Falls Mayor Cathy VanRiffeghem says the community's heritage is boatmaking, which began in the city 90 years ago and became its biggest industry.

Brunswick says production will be phased out beginning in May. Little Falls Alderman Urban Otremba tells the St. Cloud Times that losing 180 jobs is devastating to a city of about 8,000 people.
