St. Cloud students holding event in response to anti-muslim incidentby Ambar Espinoza, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Cloud, Minn. — Two student groups at St. Cloud State University are holding a "Speak Out Against Hate" event today.
The event will address several obscene, racist, and anti-Islamic cartoons found on a couple of utility poles around St. Cloud in early December.
Student organizers say they want to speak out against this incident to send the message that such actions are unacceptable. The Somali Student Association and the Cultural Diversity Committee are sponsoring the event.
Students will have the option of signing a petition that asks local prosecutors to charge the suspect responsible for posting those images. One student organizer, Alia Abdi, says the images are offensive to all people, not just Muslims.
The students will close the event with a peaceful march around campus.
