Ordway musical memories
January 13, 2010
St. Paul, Minn. —
In its 25 years, the Ordway has been host to some of the biggest names in classical music - Yo-Yo Ma, Renee Fleming, Guarneri String Quartet, Mitsuko Uchida, Gidon Kremer, Eroica Trio, Lang Lang - as well as countless memorable performances by resident ensembles including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera.
You can listen on-line to a few of our staff picks of concerts that were particularly exciting.
Bobby McFerrin giving a lively juiced-up version of Mozart and Hugh Wolff's last hurrah as Music Director leading the SPCO in a world premier by Aaron Jay Kernis written for and dedicated to him.
As well, a recent concert - a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat rendition of Enescu's "Sonata in the Romanian Popular Character" given in a Schubert Club recital by Leonidas Kavakos and Peter Nagy.
