Rep. Tim Walz holding town hall on Afghanistan

Minnesota Congressman Tim Walz will hold a town hall meeting in Mankato next week to discuss the planned military escalation in Afghanistan.

The DFL representative has reacted cautiously to President Obama's plan to send another 30,000 troops to the war-torn country.

"I think the president has laid out a plan at this point, but I think there's still some unanswered questions," Walz told MPR's Cathy Wurzer on Wednesday. "I think the devil is in the details. Just exactly how are these forces going to disrupt, deny and defeat al Qaeda forces?"

Walz, a retired Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major, held his first Afghanistan town hall in Winona this October.

The Dec. 7 meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at South Central College, Conference Center B, 1920 Lee Blvd. in Mankato.
