Twin Cities' Catholic Charities gets a new leader
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioThe Twin Cities' largest social services organization is getting a new leader. Paul Martodam will become CEO of Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis in January.
He takes the helm at a time when demand at food shelves and homeless shelters has reached unprecedented levels. The organization reports shelters are often at capacity and food shelves saw a 91 percent increase in demand in September over September 2008.
Martodam was visiting Minnesota Wednesday to tour some of Catholic Charities facilities and he joined Tom Crann in the studio to talk about the role of social service organizations in a time of economic hardship and to react to the news that there is another $1.2 billion hole in the state's budget.
