Golden eagle returns to Minnesota

Golden eagle
This golden eagle was released back into the wild in March 2009, after recuperating from an injury at the U of M Raptor Center. A GPS unit strapped to the eagle indicates the bird has returned to Minnesota this fall.

This is the time of year when the skies are filled with migrating birds. There's one big bird that researchers are very interested in, and he's heading our way.

You might remember hearing about a beautiful golden eagle who was nursed back to health in Minnesota and released back in March wearing a special GPS unit strapped to his back. The latest data from the unit shows he's back in Minnesota.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Scott Mehus, a raptor expert at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha. He has been following the bird's movements.
