The cast of the musical "Buddy" on Radio Heartland
by Dale Connelly, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — It's been more than a generation since Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa, a day known to many as "the day the music died." But Holly is still considered a pioneer of rock and roll music.
St. Paul's History Theatre is currently running "Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story." They've teamed up with McNally Smith College of Music for much of the talent for this production. Local composer Gary Rue, a veteran band leader himself, guided the young musicians in their tribute to Holly.
Gary Rue, director Ron Peluso and the cast from the Buddy Holly Story stopped in the Radio Heartland studio.
Songs performed, "Maybe Baby," "Words of Love," "Peggy Sue," and "Oh Boy."
