St. Paul, Minn. — Drew Nelson wasn't thinking he'd be a songwriter when he grew up. He's from a farm in Michigan and was into books mostly. His music reflects his love for storytelling, and the farmers and Native American friends he grew up with, and the places he traveled in his life. He joined the Navy after high school and traveled the world, allowing the people he met and places he visited to influence his writing.

Since then, he's won songwriting awards and performed all over the country. His latest album is "Dusty Road to Beulah Land."

Drew Nelson stopped in the Radio Heartland studios to play and chat.

Songs performed: "Highway 2," "Grandmother Moon," and "True and Fine."
