St. Paul, Minn. — Johannesburg, South Africa's BLK JKS (pronounced Black Jacks) began five years ago as a group of friends jamming. Influenced by jazz and rock, they also pull from Zulu, Xhosa, and other traditional South African cultures.

BLK JKS signed with the Secretly Canadian record label, recorded their first EP "Mystery" in New York City, and then completed their full-length "After Robots" in Bloomington, IN.

Songs performed: "Lakeside," "Tselane," and "Banna Ba Modimo (Man of God)."
