St. Paul, Minn. — Isabel Bayrakdarian speaks with the ease and assurance of an artist supremely aware of her talents. Bayrakdarian recently celebrated her proud Armenian ancestry with a widely acclaimed recording of songs by the Armenian composer, Gomidas. With interpretations as strong as her personality, she is the perfect soprano for the role of Leila in the Minnesota Opera's production of George Bizet's The Pearl Fishers. She spoke with Classical MPR's Steve Staruch.
