More budget cut details expected today

Details are due today on the last round of budget cuts under Gov. Tim Pawlenty's plan to balance the budget on his own.

Minnesota Management and Budget will release the reductions that state agencies will make for the budget year that begins next July. The agencies are cutting $11 million in the current budget year by spending less on everything from dairy inspectors to services for the blind.

Pawlenty is requiring most state departments to pare their budgets as he erases a $2.7 billion deficit using an executive power called unallotment. The Republican governor invoked the authority when he and Democrats who control the Legislature failed to agree on a full budget.
