Zee Avi performs live in The Current studios

St. Paul, Minn. — Zee Avi's music career began after she posted a video of her first song on YouTube for a friend, who had missed her first performance in Kuala Lumpur. After recognizing her online popularity, Brushfire Records signed Zee in 2008.

She was born in Miri, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. She studied fashion design at American InterContinental University in London, only to see that her passion for music was greater than a form fitting business suit. Zee Avi's full self-titled album was released in May of 2009.
