T'wolves introduce new head coach this afternoon

St. Paul, Minn. — The Minnesota Timberwolves will introduce their new head coach this afternoon.

The team has announced that Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis will succeed Kevin McHale, who was let go several weeks ago.

Wolves president David Kahn says Rambis will share McHale's positive, upbeat coaching style. But Kahn says he also thinks highly of Rambis' vast coaching experience.

"Kurt has obviously spent more time at learning the craft. He's been an assistant coach for a number of years, (and) was a head coach briefly," Kahn said. "And his experience both playing for Pat Riley and sitting alongside Phil Jackson may have in some ways almost uniquely prepared him because those are two of the three greatest coaches, arguably, in this sport."

Kahn says Rambis will also bring a level of calm to the bench that will complement the young team.

Rambis will be introduced at a 1 p.m. press conference at the Target Center.
