Two wounded by single bullet in Minneapolis bus shooting

St. Paul, Minn. — Two people were wounded Monday night in a shooting on a Metro Transit bus in Minneapolis, authorities said.

The Route 5 bus was southbound on Chicago Avenue near east 15th Street at around 9 p.m., when an argument started in the back of the bus, transit officials said.

One of the people involved started to leave the bus, but turned and fired a single shot on the way out, officials said.

One passenger was struck in the arm and another was grazed by the bullet before it broke a window, according to Metro Transit spokesman Bob Gibbons.

"Minneapolis police were on the scene quickly and apprehended the suspect and recovered the gun," Gibbons said. "Metro Transit Police will take the lead now in the investigation and expect to charge the individual in the next day or so."

Gun violence on Metro Transit buses is rare, although another passenger was shot and wounded in a confrontation in north Minneapolis in 2007. A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed on a Route 74 bus in downtown St. Paul about a month later.
