Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is making a brief visit to St. Paul today for the unveiling of a statue in his honor. The Nobel Laureate will appear at a special ceremony at the Institute for Global Citizenship at his alma mater, Macalester College.

St. Paul, Minn. — Before the ceremony, there will be a brief question and answer period for students.

Macalester spokesperson Barbara Laskin said the bronze statue was donated to the school.

"Since he was the inaugural speaker for the then newly created Institute for Global Citizenship, to have him have the bust in the now finished building is something that we are very excited about," Laskin said.

Annan completed his undergraduate studies in economics at Macalester in 1961.
