Klobuchar: 'We have to keep people safe'
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioThe governors of Minnesota and North Dakota, as well as members of Congress, met with the Army Corps of Engineers in Washington today. They were there to talk about permanent flood protection along the Red River in the north.
Fargo and Moorhead were spared this flood season thanks to the combined sandbagging efforts of volunteers, National Guard members and many others. Now, Fargo-Moorhead and other cities want improved levee systems of their own, similar to the massive, state-of-the-art system built in Grand Forks, Iowa after the floods in 1997.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar was there, and she talked with MPR's Tom Crann by phone about what took place in Washington today.
