Key lawmakers sell their education funding proposals

St. Paul, Minn. — Funding for K-12 education makes up 40 percent of the state budget. Gov. Pawlenty and House and Senate lawmakers are considering different education funding proposals in the face of a $4.6 billion deficit.

The DFL Senate leadership proposes across-the-board cuts, including education. The governor proposes some increases in education funding. The House DFL leadership proposes no cuts to education.

Which proposal will prevail when the Legislature adjourns in May?
