The hazards of being The Decemberists' Colin Meloy

LISTEN

St. Paul, Minn. — Singer and lyricist Colin Meloy is responsible for his band - The Decemberists - having the reputation as one of the most literate bands in indie rock.

For the band's new record, The Hazards Of Love, Colin Meloy mined British folk music and mythic archetypes for a story that spans the length of entire album.

Colin Meloy joined Steve Seel to explain the story and describe his inspirations for writing it, and discuss the pitfalls of writing in the voice of fictional characters who do despicable things - as well as help present three songs from the album itself.
