Host committee says it raised more than $51M during RNCby Tom Scheck, Minnesota Public Radio
St. Paul, Minn. — The Minneapolis-St. Paul Host Committee says it raised $51 million in contributions from corporations and individuals. It also reports that another $7.2 million was donated through in kind contributions. The non-profit has not spent all of the money it raised. $4.7 million is reportedly left in the bank.
The Host Committee spent months preparing the Twin Cities for the Republican National Convention which ran from September 1-4. Committee organizers were hoping to raise $58 million for the event - a goal that was reached when you include in kind donations.
A bipartisan group of officials, including Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty and the Democratic Mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, worked to raise the money for the convention. They said the convention brought valuable attention and tourism dollars to the area.
Committee officials would not provide the full report so it's difficult to tell who gave the most money to the convention. The report was also not available on the Federal Elections Commission website.
