Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced today that he'll travel to Europe next week to promote trade, energy and economic cooperation.

Pawlenty will travel first to Madrid, Spain, where he'll meet with several government officials. He's scheduled to speak Monday at the EU-US Business Roundtable on Energy and Technology.

On Wednesday, Pawlenty will travel to London for similar meetings. He'll deliver the keynote address at an Atlantic Partnership event on Thursday.

In a news release announcing the trip, Pawlenty said exports have been one of the few bright spots in the economy, and it's more important than ever to continue to increase the state's foreign trade.

Pawlenty said he plans to share Minnesota's success stories, including renewable energy, and also encourage investment in the state.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Spain and the Atlantic Partnership, based in London, invited Pawlenty. Those organizations will pay his travel expenses.
