Judge detains Michigan man in RNC case

September 15, 2008

St. Paul, Minn. — (AP) - A Michigan man who allegedly came to Minnesota to attack the Republican National Convention has been ordered detained and will remain in federal custody.

In an order dated Friday and made public Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan says Matthew Bradley DePalma, 23, of Flint, Mich., will remain in custody.

DePalma is charged with one count of possessing unregistered firearms -- specifically Molotov cocktails.

DePalma allegedly had at least five Molotov cocktails. He also allegedly told an FBI informant of plans to attack the Xcel Energy Center, where the convention was held.

Boylan says DePalma will stay detained because he is a flight risk and releasing him could pose a danger to the community.
