Minnesota's 2nd District has answer for gas prices
by Tom Scheck, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — The candidates in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District disagree about the best way to address the high cost of gasoline.
Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., has been calling on Democratic Congressional leaders to come back from the summer recess to vote on a bill that allows for increased offshore drilling.
Kline's DFL opponent, Steve Sarvi, said Kline's only focus seems to be on increased drilling, when oil companies are not drilling on federal land where they already have leases.
"I think that's where our focus needs to be rather than grabbing additional acres that are basically offshore or in Alaska, which we can't get to for many years anyway. It seems to me that it's just a play to put more of these drilling acres in the hands of the oil companies," Sarvi said.
Minnesota's Second Congressional District includes the southern Twin Cities suburbs and smaller cities like Red Wing and Faribault.
