Ford plant to stay open 2 years longer than planned
Workers at the Ford Plant in St. Paul will keep making the Ranger small pick-up truck through 2011. Ford Motor Company officials announced this morning that the plant is no longer slated to close next year.
Ford said high gas prices are forcing a shift away from large trucks and sport utility vehicles.
The company also released its earnings report this morning, saying it lost more than $8.6 billion in the second quarter, largely because of a reduction in the value of assets.
Minnesota Public Radio's Cathy Wurzer talked with Roger Terveen, the President of United Auto Workers Local 879, the union representing Ford workers at the Twin Cities assembly plant.
