New regulations for Minn. feedlots
by Sea Stachura, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has proposed changes to the feedlot permitting process.
Feedlot program engineer Kim Brynildson said when a feedlot changes ownership the MPCA now will have to approve the permit transfer.
Brynildson said producers will no longer be able to spread manure after December 1, and they will have to keep more detailed records of transferred manure.
"The issues that we believe the producers are going to be concerned about are largely related to the land application requirements for winter spreading and then also record keeping," Brynildson said.
Public meetings will be held across the state starting July 21. Official public comment begins in the fall.
