Archdiocese intervenes in church's gay pride service

St. Paul, Minn. — St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church will be holding a prayer service tonight that will promote peace and understanding, and some parishioners are planning to protest the event.

Some parishioners are unhappy, because the church had been originally intended to hold a service celebrating its gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender parishioners. They planned on holding the service in advance of the Twin Cities Pride Festival this weekend, as they have done for at least the past two years.

The theme of this year's service was changed after the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis prohibited what they maintain is a celebration of GLBT lifestyles.

To talk more about the prayer service, Father Jim Cassidy, the acting pastor at St. Joan of Arc Church in Minneapolis, joined host Tom Crann to talk about the service.
