St. Paul, Minn. — With a last name that comes from the Latin word for bear, Mihaela Ursuleasa is a commanding pianist and one of the biggest talents in the piano world. Small in stature, her music making is emotionally large and compelling.
The Romanian-born pianist is no stranger to Twin Cities audiences. She made her U.S. concert debut with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in 1996 while still a teenager. She was a guest soloist with Minnesota Orchestra in 2003.
Mihaela Ursuleasa is back in town for the final recital of the Frederic Chopin Society's 25th anniversary season Sunday afternoon at Macalester College. She'll play the music of Chopin and Rachmaninoff along with the world premiere of a new work by Aaron Jay Kernis.
She stopped by Minnesota Public Radio to give a recital preview and spoke with host Steve Staruch.
