New tool helps doctors predict patient's bone density
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — Doctors have many diagnostic tools they can use to determine a patient's current condition. But a new one is helping physicians predict a patient's future risk of one important medical malady.
The World Health Organization calls it "FRAX", the fracture risk assessment tool, and it can calculate a person's risk of dangerous bone fractures due to osteoporosis.
The Internet-based program takes into account bone density, as well as environmental and behaviorial factors, such as medical history and alcohol intake.
Dr. Jon Hallberg joined Tom Crann to explain how "FRAX" works in the clinic.
