Dalai Lama in Rochester
by Sea Stachura, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — The Dalai Lama will speak in Rochester today.
The Tibetan spiritual leader will give a talk entitled, "compassion in Medicine." He will also hold a panel discussion with the Mayo Clinic's CEO Glenn Forbes.
Last year the Dalai Lama came to the Clinic for a medical exam. Officials aren't saying whether he is receiving medical treatment during this visit.
Pro Chinese demonstrators say they'll protest outside the Mayo Clinic during the Dalai Lama's appearance. According to a news release, they will demand an end to the violence by pro-Tibetan demonstrators.
In recent weeks Tibetan supporters have interrupted China's Olympic Torch ceremonies, sometimes violently. Tibet is under Chinese control and many Tibetans want independence. Chinese officials and Tibetan protestors have clashed in Tibet in recent weeks.
