Carbon/Silicon performs live from SXSW

Austin, TX — No, Carbon/Silicon isn't a chemistry lesson about the periodic table of elements. It's a collaboration between The Clash's Mick Jones and Tony James of the Billy Idol-fronted Generation X, which sounds more like dance rock rather than their punk roots.

The creation of the band was sparked by the changing dissemination of music via the internet, MP3s, burning CDs, and peer-to-peer networks. They see these changes as a savior to creativity rather than its demise. And that's where their name comes from -- the human element, carbon, comes from the soul of Jones and the computer element, silicon, comes from James' computers. There's a chemistry lesson in there after all.
