A taste of 'Blues in the Night'
by Steven John, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — Several well-known Twin Cities performers take center stage for a new production of the Tony-nominated show "Blues in the Night," which opened this week at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul.
"Blues in the Night" originally opened on Broadway in 1982. It features popular songs by Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Bessie Smith and other blues and jazz greats, blending their styles and moods to form the show's storyline about three women who have relationships with one snake of a guy.
MPR's Steven John recently talked with the local cast of "Blues in the Night," Jamecia Bennett, Debbie Duncan, Regina Williams and Julius Collins.
They were joined in MPR's Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser studio by the show's musical director Raymond Berg, who played piano while they shared some of the music from the show.
