by Tom Weber, Minnesota Public Radio
March 12, 2008

The students of Linwood A+ Elementary School open their opera with a song called "North Star State." Here are the lyrics.

(Refrain)

North Star State

Gopher State

And the Land of 10,000 lakes:

Minnesota is our home.

(Verse 1)

'Hail Minnesota' is our state song.

Milk is our state beverage.

Walleye is our state fish

And our state muffin is blueberry.

(Refrain, sung in a round)

North Star State

Gopher State

And the Land of 10,000 lakes:

Minnesota is our home.

(Verse 2)

The common loon is our state bird.

Norway Pine is our state tree

Monarch is our state insect,

But some think mosquitoes should be.

(Back to refrain)
