Riding the Zamboni

St. Paul, Minn. — Have you ever wondered how they keep the ice at the Xcel Energy Center shiny? It takes 15,000 gallons of water to keep the ice up to the standards of National Hockey League.

Travis Larson is the chief ice-keeper at the Xcel Center. He's is the expert on how to keep the ice perfect for both Wild hockey and the U.S. Figure Skating Championship, going on thru the weekend.

Chris Aase gave All Things Considered's Tom Crann a ride on the Zamboni, and shared his life-long desire to drive a Zamboni machine.
